The Learning Place (TLP) is an inclusive Montessori school for boys and girls aged 1-12 years old. It is located in the heart of Lekki, Lagos.

We opened our doors to full time Montessori operation on the 8th of September, 2004. Twelve (12) students including two with special needs resumed on the first day of school.
We opened with two classrooms and expanded as we grew. Our first Fun day was organized by parents in April, 2007 with over 500 persons in attendance and our first Sports day was in January 2011.
In October 2010, we opened an affiliate school called TLPCentre and continue to admit students with special needs. We are considered one of the foremost inclusive schools in Lagos and our students are independent, confident, creative and analytical problem solvers.
Our Philosophy
The Montessori philosophy was created by Dr Maria Montessori, the first female physician to graduate from the University of Rome. Dr Montessori became involved with education as a doctor, treating children labelled as mentally handicapped. On January 6th, 1907, she opened a childcare centre called ‘The Children’s House’ and based the program on her observations that young children learn best in a home- like setting, with developmentally appropriate materials.
Her teachings were based on the key principles of Independence, Observation, Following the Child, Correcting the Child, Prepared Environment and Absorbent Mind. The Montessori Theory methods, concepts and foundation principles can be applied across all ages.
They are applied across ages 1-12 years at TLP.
